JOB DESCRIPTION: This is a 12-month tenure-accruing position with 80% extension (Florida Cooperative Extension Service) and 20% research (Florida Agricultural Experiment Station) assignment at the Florida Medical Entomology Laboratory, Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, at the University of Florida. This assignment may change in accordance with the needs of the unit.

Duties will include dissemination of FMEL and University of Florida research discoveries to the public and to vector control and public health agencies directly, or through other University of Florida extension resources; training students, extension personnel, vector control personnel, and public health professionals; and serving as a liaison between FMEL researchers, vector control, public health agencies and professional organizations; and related activities. This position also has a research component that may focus on any aspect of the biology of arthropods of medical importance and the disease-causing pathogens they transmit, with particular emphasis on those important to Florida. Tenure will accrue in the Entomology and Nematology Department. The successful candidate will participate actively in undergraduate and graduate education by chairing and serving on graduate committees, supervising thesis, dissertation and undergraduate research, and publishing research results with students. The successful candidate will seek contract and grant funding actively to support his/her program.

The position includes maintaining close contact with over 50 mosquito control districts in the state of Florida to address training needs by providing extension education to Florida mosquito control district personnel through the research and application of new technical procedures to improve program efficacy and efficiency. The candidate should also maintain contact with the county and state extension faculty and the public at large by developing and participating in short courses on topics related to medical entomology, and supporting educational materials for Extension and the general public

Because of the IFAS land-grant mission, all faculty are expected to be supportive of and engaged in all three mission areas—Research, Teaching, and Extension—regardless of the assignment split specified in the position description.

ADVERTISED SALARY: Commensurate with Education and Experience
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: A doctorate (foreign equivalent acceptable) in a relevant biological science or a closely related discipline is required. Candidates should have demonstrated skills in verbal and written communication, interpersonal relationships, and procurement of extramural funding. Candidates must be supportive of the mission of the Land-Grant system. Candidates must also have a commitment to IFAS core values of excellence, diversity, global involvement, and accountability.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Postdoctoral experience is desirable. Special consideration will be given to candidates with extension and research programs dealing with vectors and vector-borne diseases and demonstrated experience in interaction with vector control and public health personnel and their related programs.
